On a lighter note...

Thought I would share with you my little spinning class adventure.

I went to my spin class this morning. Last time I hated it- let's just say the seats are not very comfortable, nor do they make it easy to want to get up to go to another spin class- but I did today.

The class was pretty full but I found a bike and adjusted it. I had to lower the seat to reach my hip height and then bring the handlebars in about half a foot so it would reach my fingertips if I put my elbow on the edge of the seat. I was all ready to go and feeling confident that I did it on my own and then I noticed the seat was broken. Mind you- I did not find this out until after the class had filled up and there were no more available bikes. I asked the instructor if it would be a problem that it rocked back and forth rather than stay stationary, she said "oh no not at all."

WRONG.

Spinning is hard enough as it is, and I was trying to focus on the exercising and keeping the seat in one place. It is kind of hard to explain what the seat was doing but basically when we were sitting and pedaling the seat would tip backwards because of the applied weight and pressure I was adding on to it- naturally. So the front of the seat would kind of be pointing up- no big deal. I was not sliding off the back of the bike so I was not too worried.

When the instructor told us to stand and continue pedaling is when it became a problem. I would stand and pedal, but that seat was still pointing up- I will let you figure out on your own why that was an issue.

We were pedaling pretty fast and I was definitely uncomfortable so I went to stop to point the seat downward. Silly me did not take into account that pedals don't stop moving up and down immediately when you want them to. So I tried to stop my legs and the pedals were still moving at an insane pace. I like fell off the bike (as much as it would allow me to), thought I broke my ankle from the pressure of me straightening my leg and the pedal continuing to turn and move my foot (it was strapped to the pedal to avoid the feet from coming off). I was obviously off of my seat and not in control of my legs and the movement going on.

I finally figured my stuff out and pointed the seat down, got myself back together and caught back up to the pace of the other spinners in the class. Just about that time the instructor told us to put our hands in position two, sit back down on the bike and increase our resistance.

My seat was pointing down at this point and I slipped right off into the main bar of the bike but caught myself before anything traumatic happened. The elderly lady that was kicking my butt as far as spinning goes looked extremely concerned and asked If I was getting along alright. I smiled and laughed and said I am used to this kind of stuff- but something about the face she made tells me she thought I was a complete idiot.

Luckily my bike was in the back of the aerobics room so no one could really see me, or they were too focussed to show any reaction to the girl struggling. I find it hard to believe I got away with no one noticing (except the hot grandma next to me) something because there is a huge wall-long mirror in front of us...
needless to say- I wont be attending another spin class unless I purchase a cup or diaper or something.

  1. The only advice I have for you on this subject is: get to class earlier. Swimming laps might be a less painful or traumatic option for you to consider. No cup or diaper thingy is required either - pretty sure diaper thingy's are frowned upon at pools, even in Ireland.

  2. Knowing me, I will probably drown or be in some swimmers way or something haha LUM ( I figured this one would bring tears to your eyes from laughing and imaginging me struggling and getting tangled in the spin bike- not the other blog)
